IE provided a suite of services across the Academy site to deliver real, measurable savings in cost and energy.

Introduction
IE were invited to advise on the overall energy management of the Academy site. There were multiple difficulties including inefficiencies in some parts of the old, 1950’s block which made energy reductions a hard area to prioritise.
Electric, portable heaters had been brought in to supplement the poor heating, which was in turn, driving costs up. The unique mix of buildings on site meant that the Academy suffers from overheating as well as under heating and so bespoke, tailored solutions needed to be identified.

What we did
IE worked strategically across the full site, starting with an initial feasibility report. This gave a black and white priority list for the Academy to work with.
A full strategy review of the current TREND system and optimising the heating for the needs of the school were part of the initial work.
This early work demonstrated improvements in both comfort and cost and so further implementation work continued. Running a full holiday switch off yielded £2,340 work of savings over the summer holiday period with. All electrical devices include 345 computer monitors, 90 electrical portable heaters, 15 computers, 25 printers and 3 locked rooms where the lights were left on in addition to a range of projectors and air conditioning units.
Solar film was recommended for two of the school blocks to help reduce un-comfortable temperatures being reached in the spring and summer terms.

The long term approach to energy management at Churchill Academy has not only delivered very useful levels of energy saving, but also improved the comfort within the school.
It has been key to work with the school to deal with energy related frustrations from the staff first to enable underlying energy savings to then be delivered.
